American Chibi is fairly new on the scene, and so far we don't know much. She acts like an overly exuberant, giddy teenager, but we don't even know if she's human.

She once thwarted the [[Iron Legion]] who were out to steal a Roman amphora whose patterns were secretly encoded with alien technology. That same day, she was the first Astro City hero to notice [[Telseth]]'s doorway, which she promptly tried to charge through, albeit unsuccessfully. Crazy or insane? Neither or both?

There are hints of a past life, a possibly known identity for the Broken Man. However, currently there is not enough information available to even bother engaging in casual speculation. The Broken Man warns that he is on a mission to save something (us, the world, mankind, the universe, we are not sure at this point) from the perceived threats of an entity know as the [[Oubor]]. He somehow broke the fourth wall itself to recruit readers' aid in his efforts. With our help, he was able nudge [[Ben Pullam]] into becoming becoming a guide to an Alien Ambassador named [[Ambassador|Telseth.]] Yet while all that's going down, he's also stuck in a psychiatric facility, spending his days in pharmaceutical haze. Who knows for sure? We might be listening to the rantings of a crazed fool, or the last sane warnings of a man driven to his mental limits by the awareness of a sinister and very real threat. So, for all of us, keeping a low profile might indeed be a good idea. At least until we know more about both the Oubor and the skinny man with the purple skin.

A liquid monster spurred by a deranged sense of justice. Its self-appointed mission in life is to kill criminals... or at least those it thinks are criminals.

The creature called Gloo was created by criminals in an attempt to clone Jack-in-the-Box, sometime after the hero's death. Their goal was an ultimate henchman, but they wound up with a nightmare. Gloo turned out to retain some echo of Jack-in-the-Box's sense of justice, but a warped and twisted version of it, and the creature began to hunt and kill criminals. It frequently employs grisly, macabre methods of murder that its skewed mind considers funny; horrific variations on known practical jokes and clown antics. As with his drive for justice, this behavior seems to stem from a distortion of the real Jack-in-the-Box's essence. Non-criminals are not necessarily safe from it whimsy, either. In its insanity, its ability to discern the bad from the good is not always the most reliable or sensible.

I was starting on the Reflex 6 page and saw that the character template infobox had a lot of stuff not pertaining to teams or groups and you couldn't add in necessary things like team members. Here would be a rough idea for a team/group template infobox...

One other thing is I noticed was debut. We previously used debut and a first appearance on the infodump. First appearance was used for the actual issue they first appeared and debut we used for what year they appeared. A bit redundant when you can look down and see when someone/thing made their first appearance under appearances, but I think we did it that way for people that had been mentioned/name dropped, who had yet to appear or later appeared and we had it down where they were first mentioned. Each section of the infobox (AstroFacts, PersonalData, and InfoDump) have three of these title-info pairs. We can add more if needed. We can also promote an Optional-option to permanent-option if we find the particular topic keeps cropping up. The difference between these is you must provide a title (which can be anything you want it to be) to go along with the info, and you must pair the names correctly

If it warrants it, I can see ''Team templates'' as something that will probably be built in the future. I am OK with using this one template for now, and see if the need is strong enough for doing a team one. Right now, having to maintain just this one template, and given the amount of common overlap of topics, I am (for now) favoring postponing that work. But I am very interested in hearing discussion pro-and-con for adding it at some point in time.

I haven't spent time documenting these optional-option parameters, mainly because of the complexity of explaining them. I don't want to overwhelm newcomers. But, yes the need to document these nine parameters is necessary and is on the todo list.

It's good for now, once I figured out how to mess around with it, it was easy. There probably aren't more than 15 teams or groups(right now at least) and apart from the Unholy Alliance, not many villain groups that it would apply to. If anything it would just be a simpler version of the character template. 

Debuts- I guess using first/earliest appearance from in the in-world perspective sounds better and and debuts as for first comic appearance works. Probably that's why we had it that way. But you could argue the other way sounds better too...Or do we need both in the infobox? 

And/or should we just drop the first time they're name dropped in the infobox, after they finally appear? Take the Five Fists I just worked on for example. They first appeared in the Silver Agent Special #1, but were mentioned in the Visitors Guide. There was some reason I liked having both. One other thing is I noticed was debut. We previously used debut and a first appearance on the infodump. First appearance was used for the actual issue they first appeared and debut we used for what year they appeared. A bit redundant when you can look down and see when someone/thing made their first appearance under appearances, but I think we did it that way for people that had been mentioned/name dropped, who had yet to appear or later appeared and we had it down where they were first mentioned. If it warrants it, I can see ''Team templates'' as something that will probably be built in the future. I am OK with using this one template for now, and see if the need is strong enough for doing a team one. Right now, having to maintain just this one template, and given the amount of common overlap of topics, I am (for now) favoring postponing that work. But I am very interested in hearing discussion pro-and-con for adding it at some point in time.

I haven't spent time documenting these optional-option parameters, mainly because of the complexity of explaining them. I don't want to overwhelm newcomers. But, yes the need to document these nine parameters is necessary and is on the todo list.

It's good for now, once I figured out how to mess around with it, it was easy. There probably aren't more than 15 teams or groups(right now at least) and apart from the Unholy Alliance, not many villain groups that it would apply to. If anything it would just be a simpler version of the character template. 

Debuts- I guess using first/earliest appearance from in the in-world perspective sounds better and and debuts as for first comic appearance works. Probably that's why we had it that way. But you could argue the other way sounds better too...Or do we need both in the infobox? 

And/or should we just drop the first time they're name dropped in the infobox, after they finally appear? Take the Five Fists I just worked on for example. They first appeared in the Silver Agent Special #1, but were mentioned in the Visitors Guide. There was some reason I liked having both. Here Lonestar being from Texas comes from Texas history and flag and attitudes in general and how a hero from Atlanta is called the Real Thing, and it is the Corporate HQ for Coca Cola.

As the [[Broken Man]] mentions on the [[Main Page]], this site took some damage. It's part of the challenges of living in the age of the 'tubes of internets.' We are in the midst of a rebuilding campaign and we welcome all the help we can get. Most of the character pages that we had are gone. Some are recoverable (see below), and some will need to be rebuilt from scratch.

That's the bad news.

The good news is we are back and we are making great progress with the rebuilding. For some of you veterans, you will see that we are improving the templates used for building character pages, and are just beginning the process of incorporating them into the initial batch of pages that are currently linked and displayable. So most of what you see during this early stage of recovery, is a hodgepodge of contents. Thrown together bits of old data with little to no formatting. With each passing day this is getting better and better. Feel free to assist with the clean up operations.

Another bit of good news, we have ramped up security measures a bit by upgrading the software and adding a few features to keep the vandalism 'bots at bay. So current and new content should be safe and this site will be a steady resource for information on one of the all time best super hero mythologies of our times.

== Become a Digital Archeologist For Herocopia ==
One of the most precious aspects of the '''Herocopia Project''' has been the accumulation of a warehouse of information about the Characters of '''Astro City.''' Unfortunately, '''Herocopia.com''' underwent a serious crash that left a lot of interesting data for and about '''Astro City''' hanging in the limbos of the massively complex cavities of the internet. We are working diligently to restore as much of this previous information as possible. We are also adding new content as time and the urge to do so permit.

We have been searching the web for old saved '''Herocopia''' pages, along with checking local hard-drives of veteran contributors. We have discovered that the '''Wayback Machine''' located at www.archive.org is a fairly good source and can be mined for '''herocopia.com''' content from the past. The only problem, it requires a lot of hand editing to bring it back to a format suitable for mediawiki development and deployment.

First steps are simple, just a bit tedious.

== Constructing a Character Page ==
We've got templates. Not very many, but for editing Characters, these work great. They work for Heroes and Villains (the templates signed a neutrality clause) and for now, can even be used for Teams, Civilian pages and other miscellaneous stuff. It might be a stretch to get them to work for City related pages, and until they have templates of their own, perhaps building a new City page can best be done by using an existing Landmark, Neighborhood, or other City page as a model. Plans are in place to design special templates for these other page categories as time permits. But for now think of the character templates as being generic, and use them wherever you feel you can make them work for whatever content you are doing.

A Character Page is usually constructed using the following two Character templates. In fact, for consistency across the Herocopia site, it is highly recommended to use them. With practice, you will find them very helpful and much easier than building a Character page from scratch.

Each template has several parameters (all optional) that can be filled in where appropriate. It will depend on the character, how much information is available from the stories, or if the information applies. Currently two of the best examples are the [[Silver Agent]] and [[Astra Furst]] pages.

These two templates are also undergoing major editing work of their own, mainly cosmetic. But any future changes made to the templates, should not effect the outer mechanics of authors using them to construct pages. Another reason to stick with using these templates when building a character page.

No outstanding warrants remain on the books, but Jack-in-the-Box has previously been suspected of several crimes, most notably the murder of Captain J.Wolfe.

His origin traces back to a dispute with the WhamCo toy company, which attempted to prove his involvement in a number of criminal cases. It should be noted that WhamCo was later found to be party to a considerable number of criminal operations itself. Most of Jack's other brushes with the law have been resolved in this fashion, usually after Jack himself has produced verifiable evidence of his innocence.

Another notable trait of this costumed adventurer is the length of his service. Debuting in 1964 and still going strong in 2005, Jack has only been inactive for a brief, six-year period (1983-1989), seemingly killed in the enormous explosion that destroyed most of Torres Island fighting The Weirdies who were working for the Underlord. Presumed dead, Jack re-emerged, seemingly as fit and capable as ever.

In truth, there have been three Jack-in-the-Boxes. The first was Jack Johnson, who became Jack-in-the-Box when he found out that WhamCo was using his toy inventions as weapons, then continued as a hero after defeating WhamCo. He is presumed dead from the aforementioned explosion. The second Jack-in-the-Box was his son, Zachary Johnson, who became Jack-in-the-Box as a vehicle to avenge his father's death, and then, continued the his father's legacy. He retired when his wife (television news anchor Tamra Dixon) became pregnant, fearing that he would die and leave his child fatherless, as had happened to him. He recruited Roscoe James, the leader of a neighborhood group of teens called the Trouble Boys, to be his protegee.

As Zachary Johnson, he met his sons from alternate dimensions, and after seeing how viciously his "sons" treated criminals, he defeated them in battle. One of his sons, The Jackson, promised to get vengeance upon Zachary.

This organism was formerly the sorcerer hero Simon Magus. In the aftermath of a great spell, his very being had become merged with Earth's biosphere. Amnesiac, no longer sure of who he was, he took on a new identity as the enigmatic Green Man.

In 1984, he manifested before an E.N.G.I.N.E. base that was genetically engineering plant-based foot soldiers. Their births and deaths drew him to the site, where he encountered Royal Williams, there on his own agenda. His magic insight sensed that Williams was on a path into darkness, and he warned him as much.
