A McGuffin of sorts. A new type of technology created by Dr. Chavez in the early 1980s. Its exact purpose or powers never revealed. Like any McGuffin, it has tangled plot connections that include a cat, a villain, two super-heroes, (Sunshrike and Nightingale), and a young girl.
